Staying at T-Life, there are an abundance of activities nearby to occupy your time. Taichung is a bustling city offering many of the amenities of any major city. Sometimes city life can be exhausting, however, and you may find yourself looking for some sweet solace on a patch of green during your stay. This is part one of series that serves as a detailed list of possible destinations along this path.
Dongfeng Park-
Take any of the buses departing from Dong Hai Villa towards the city center and alight at 2nd Market. From here, you have the choice of taking another bus (201,901,58) or an easy half hour stroll to reach Dongfeng Park.
The entrance of the park is a courtyard overlooked by a monument commemorating the “2.28 incident,” here’s a link if you’re interested in learning more about this bit of Taiwanese history before your visit
The park beyond is small, but offers much in the way of amenities and entertainment. Take a stroll and enjoy the palm trees and green grass, watch out for sprinklers watering the lawn if you don’t want to get wet.
The soothing sounds of rushing water leads you to the south border of the park, to a canal lined with traditional Taiwanese houses
The park also sports a Transformers themed playground for your kids, or yourself if you’re feeling playful
There’s also an exercise area with pull-up bars, balance beams, etc., which I didn’t take a picture of out of respect for those currently exercising.
Or if you’re just looking to relax, find a spot on any of the assortment of benches littered about, some under pavilions in case it rains. If you know how to play Mahjong or Go, you’ll find plenty of opponents to match you in battle.
BONUS-Just a few blocks south of Dongfeng Park is another quick stop you may want to make, a replica of the bus stop from Hayao Miyazaki’s “My Neighbor Totoro”
